A lot of rumors indicate that the team might be called the Manitoba Falcons. Now obviously the jets would be my number once choice but I wouldnt have any problem with Falcons. Especially given the local and international significance of the name. Sounds great!

It's gonna be the manitoba voyageurs. That way they get the rural, urban, and french fans Too close to voyeurs. Our American friends would have a field day with that one.

You know, on the main page someone mentioned something akin to soccer - Manitoba Hockey Club or Manitoba HC. I haven't really been too keen to engage in the whole naming thing (although I like both Falcons and Victorias for their heritage and championship-ness), but I sort of really like Manitoba HC. People would inevitably adopt some sort of a nickname for the team, I know, but I think Manitoba HC is kinda classy. I like the Manitoba HC. Brandon owns the best possible name for a team from Manitoba. Wheat Kings. So Perfect.

Seeing how Atlanta (for now) has three teams named after birds, how about naming our NHL team the Manitoba Pickerels? We already one team named for a fish, after all.. and it would be something "Manitoban".
Perhaps one day when the time is up for the Florida Panthers, they move to Quebec, and the team is renamed Les Quebec Tourtieres. The Islanders can then relocate to a new home in Portland, Oregon which has an arena ready, and will be home to the Portland Granolas. The Columbus Blue Jackets will then leave the Buckeye State for the Sprint Center in Kansas City, and play as the Kansas City BBQs. Whenever they win, the sports section in the KC newspaper will read something like "the BBQs grill the Ducks".
All humour aside, I hope the whispers about using the name "Jets" are true if it is in fact the Coyotes we will be getting.

Can any one tell I was hungry from my last post?
Going with what I said on another thread, if TNSE picks a name that reflects our socialist tendencies, you might see the story headline "LA Kings fleeced/robbed by the Manitoba Moochers/Manitoba Orange Jackets". It would work even better if the Vancouver Millionaires were still in existence.

Using the Jets name would be my first choice.
While not strictly just Manitoban but definitely Canadian... I think Winnipeg Avros could be a good homage to the Jets namesake.

If the Coyotes move back to Winnipeg, then there's no reason AT ALL why they shouldn't be called the Jets again, it's the original team going back. TNSE should just call the team the Jets again even if it's another team, PK Peladeau said that if Quebec gets a team back that it will be called the Nordiques again, Howard Baldwin also said that if a team comes back to Hartford that they will be called the Whalers again, so why not call the team the Jets again TNSE?

Either Jets or Warhawks.
And by Warhawks, I mean the bird. It would fit well if Atlanta moved here!
I hope there's a naming contest, and if we can't use Jets, I'm sending my Warhawks suggestion in.

Oddly enough, apparently, the name of a group of polar bears is called a "celebration".

Ideally I would want the Jets name to stick, but only if the original team returns. If it's another team, I'd rather have a new name. My future sister-in-law and I spent some time the other day brainstorming some names (mostly using native animal species) if a new name had to be used. It wasn't until late that night when I was getting ready to go to bed when it hit me. Winnipeg Nanooks Nanuq [n-ah-n-oo-k] is the direct English transliteration of the Inuit word for polar bear (also the name for the master of bears). In simplified English it's Nanook, which makes it less likely for people to mispronounce. I have a feeling not many people will like it, but it's the best I have right now.

I whole-heartedly would like to see the team named something other than "Jets". The Jets weren't a very good team. We were basically Vancouver's, Calgary's and Edmonton's whipping boys. We need something new for this new incarnation of Winnipeg NHL hockey.
I really like the Winnipeg Falcons and Winnipeg Victorias, which has a very classic sound to it.

Or shorten up Victorias to Vics. Go Vics Go, Go Vics Go...has a nice ring to it.
