For real? There are people who wouldn't support this team because they didn't get the name they want? hah. wow, that's healthy. Think of it more as there are people who have no reason to support an NHL team in Winnipeg who *would* do so anyhow if they were to be the Jets.

I think it's important to recognize that yes, there are people like that out there. I've said 100 times, I'm not one of them as I will support the team no matter what, but I do know people who have said they won't even cheer for the team if it's not the Jets. I'm assuming once the team is actually here, there would be very few people that actually choose to not support the team at all because of the name. But why take that chance? That's what I really don't get! There's simply no risk in naming them Jets, and there seems to be a fairly big risk with naming them anything else... We've also now heard from both local branding experts and experts from as far away as San Francisco that True North would be "Fools" to name them anything but the Jets. I believe DKehler was the first one to bring it up, and many have since, but clearly a world-wide recognized brand is something with huge value, and should not be ignored!

So you'll be $2,000+ for season tickets but you won't plop down $30 for a shirt? Give me a break. Yeah, basically. I don't know if that was targeted to me or not.... I'll pay the $2,000+ because I get to watch NHL hockey. Buying tickets could be done for various reasons.... three of which are the following: 1)being passionate about a team 2)simply believing in NHL-caliber hockey, justifying attending a game 3)a combination of both. Example: I dislike the Canucks, yet I paid VERY good money to see them against a crap team this year... because it's good hockey (by "good hockey", I mean NHL hockey). Would I ever buy a $30 Canucks shirt? No. If I lived in Vancouver, would I pay thousands of dollars for season tickets? yes. I'm not the only one who thinks this way. You'd be surprised how many people answer "I liked the name" when people ask them why they started to like a certain sports team. Ps- Over time, I'm sure I would become attached to local team here in Winnipeg. I just think it would take a while, regardless of whether or not I have season tickets. That's all.

Personally whatever your choice is ... buy a shirt, buy a ticket, buy seasons I don't think you need to defend your decision to others unless you were directly involved with the team itself (owner, sponsor etc).

Hey support the team in what ever way you are comfortable
Season tickets, jerseys, t-shirts or just an odd game Whatever you are comfortable or can afford it is time to stop judging people and just do what you can or want........What I want to do might be different from someone else but as long as we all do something then we are supporting the team!!

A lot of fans said they would not go to another hockey game until the Jets return. Many of these people kept their word and never went to a Moose game. Don't think some of these people won't stick by their guns if the jets don't return.

That is a huge group of ours.... including myself, I have not had an interest in the Moose at all.... and I can't tell you how many ppl I know that are JETS .... and nothing more... Nothing wrong with that, its what you bleed

So.... Most recent poll in the Free Press. Results are in: www.winnipegfreepress.com/polls/If-an-NHL-team-returns-to-Winnipeg-what-should-it-be-named-122257964.html?viewResults=y60% voted for the Jets. That's the lowest poll number I've seen yet and there is still nothing else even close to it. Results: 1) Jets - 60% 2) Something else - 12% 3) Falcons - 9% 4) Warriors - 4% 5) Moose - 4% 6) Polar Bears - 3% 7) Thunderbirds - 1% 8) Gold - 1% Then Braves, Breeze and Prairie with 0%. Clearly Jets is the overwhelming favourite, and no other name has particularly overwhelming support... And yes, an internet poll is never scientifically perfect, but I would suggest this probably more or less captures the opinion of the city fairly well. Even if it is biased towards hockey fans, that's not really bad because True North would want to know what hockey fans think, not non-hockey fans.

As much as some people here are in love with the Jets name, I'm sure there are those who are equally over it. I was a Jets fan as a kid as well, but I'm ready to move on (assuming it's not the Coyotes moving back). Reading back a few pages make my stomach turn a little. Kind of like listening to a bunch of nutcase religious extremists. You actually managed to make bringing hockey back to Winnipeg look like a silly idea. Whatever the new name, I'll be a fan.

I can understand not really caring about what the team is named, but I can't understand the need to belittle other people for their opinions. I personally have tried to explain some of the many, many valid reasons why people might be less inclined to support a team named something else. It seems to fall on deaf ears or get ridiculed. There are good reasons why every single poll suggests the same thing and why companies spend big money on branding.

Manitoba Polar Bears?
Also powder blue uniforms, can't get any trendier than that. Trendy colour with cartoon logo most likely.

If not Jets, they should listen to the fans and go with the #2 choice on the Free Press poll.
With a whopping 11% of the vote, we enveil the:
"Winnipeg Something Else"
Which really would be something else, wouldn't it. Just kidding, have fun Winnipeg!
