Geeh! Did Bettman not just say all teams are in great shape? Whatever Gary! Maybe we go full circle and end up where the ride started in Atlanta!

Start the rumour mill. no, but it could mean we have 2 teams on the table for 2011. in fact i think tn should be allowed to try and buy the thrashers this summer for 2011 and if phonix fails ship em to quebec.

Interesting how the Thrashers are being sold separately from the arena/Hawks deal.

Funny enough. I heard from a bunch of sources back at the Olympics(while watching the Gold Medal game as a matter of fact) that the Deal for Chipmann was already done and that Atlanta was the team. Maybe just maybe....

Wow, that didn't take long. 1 day after we find out we are not getting the coyotes, we're suppose to get the thrashers. maybe for 2015.

^^^ Why 2015?!?
This might actually play into the whole theory that the NHL had made a deal with TN to use them as pawns to spur the Coyotes into staying, only to be rewarded with the a deal for the Thrashers...

Here are some very telling quotes in the article...
As for the Thrashers they are being sold separately and lost about $30 million in the last 12 month,
many of the team owners who were very rich have lost money in the recession and cannot afford to keep funding money-losing teams.
Owners too have a quickly depleting number of wealthy financiers to whom they can sell their teams.

This team will move in the next few years, whether it be Winnipeg or another city. This team locally owned will lose more money than when they were owned by the Atlanta Spirit (who owns the arena). Not only will they have limited revenue streams, they will also have to pay rent.
If someone wants to buy them locally they'll have to build their own arena to have a fighting chance of making money. You also have to compete against the other arena for filling dates when you don't have hockey. Why would anyone put themselves in such a huge hole?
This team won't survive in Atlanta.

VERY interesting news.
It's nice that this is now official as the rumours swirled for awhile and Bettman seemed eager to deny them.
- The Thrashers being sold separately pretty much indicates a strong probability of them moving. Not only because the new owners would have to pay rent and not receive any of the arena-produced revenue, but also because the more valuable Hawks are being sold and if you bought them, would you want an NHL team competing for entertainment dollars?
- The fact the Thrashers lost $30 million is somewhat shocking and puts them on par with the Coyotes. I am curious if that includes debt servicing costs. The article refers to the Hawks losses as "before debt servicing". If the same is true of the Thrashers, it means they lost more than $30 million. Did they qualify for revenue sharing?
I would say this officially moves the Thrashers to the top of the list for 2011. It may also explain why the NHL has been so determined to exhaust all efforts to keep the Coyotes in PHX. If they accepted TN's offer, what to do about the Thrashers?
I would suggest the Thrashers will not have the same options as the Coyotes to get political interest in keeping the team. The city does not own the arena and thus, do not need the franchise to generate revenue. The Hawks will be the favoured franchise.
Anyone buying the Thrashers to keep them in Atlanta would need to build an arena and I can't see that happening in this economy.

Not for next year they won't.
One can presume Atlanta Spirit wants to sell these assets before losing tens of millions on another season. Therefor we can presume the Thrashers will be up for relocation as early as 2011. Quebec won't be ready in time.
I suppose a possibility exists that if Quebec has all it's ducks in a row and has begun work on an arena, the NHL *might* allow them to relocate a franchise, assuming ofcourse, the owners cover all losses while the team plays in an out-dated facility.
But Winnipeg will be higher up the food chain than Quebec. It might be the Coyotes moving to Quebec in 5 years.

If Quebec give the warranty they will work on a new arena, Bill Dally said last week the old arena can be the home for a new team 2-3 years
The owner will have no problem to make profites with the plan they presented last month to NHL Quebecor is a media compagny and make cash with anything.
And Quebecor will launch his Sports TV channel in 2011, they need hockey, they will not presented curling lol
PS: Sorry for my english
