According to the City of Winnipeg Permits Online (accessible here: cms00asa1.winnipeg.ca/?context=PublicQuery ), there is some sort of structural alteration underway at 300 Portage Avenue (aka MTS Centre). I've been checking the Permits Online website periodically and this is the first such alteration permit I've seen. I wonder what TNSE is up to? Installing a new drinking fountain for the Timbits players or is it something a little more substantial than that?

i doubt they would have to file for a permit for "structural alteration" to install a water fountain so its obvious that somethings going on, anything that alterates the structure of a building i would consider major

the structural alteration could be what they were talking about previously in the thread. How they were knocking out wall to increase the size of the third level concession area.

I work in construction and from what I hear big equipment will be needed for whatever they are doing. the majority of the work seems to be starting August 2nd and for a month or so. I hear new press boxes.

Who knows, would love to be a fly on the wall in all these places I understand that structural could just be concessions and thats what I think it is (well....aside from the fact that the permit hasen't gone through and people have said the work on the concessions has started already....) but jetsfan says he has heard big equipment will be needed. So my question is what kind big equipment as that may give us some ideas.

Big equipment as in large boomlifts able to reach up to the rafters from ice level.

In regards to the original post: I was actually up there on 300 today doing work. The walls they were knocking out are to make room for wheeled concession stands. The electrical and data are being relocated to the side walls, and sprinkler heads are being installed. It doesn't widen any concourse, but it does add 6 feet for workers behind said stands, plus potential storage space. I hope to snap a few quick shots and post them. If you aren't REALLY, REALLY familiar with how the 300 level looks, there is no way you would even notice this work has been done.

Well from what I saw and as it was explained, these "carts" are now tucked 6 feet or so further back, so it will in fact create more walking room on the concourse, in essence creating a wider concourse.....

Believer, yeah I mentioned that. I took a few pictures that I hope to upload when I get some time. But if you were unaware of these changes, I guarantee, you probably wouldn't even notice them.

Can anyone confirm that along with the press box addition, two new private suites/boxes are being built as well?

I went to the first Moose home game in a month tonight... work is really coming along on the press box. It shouldn't take much longer for the walls to be up. The new press box area looks like it should be completed well before the start of the 2011-12 season!
