With all the recent speculation that our old team might be back here next season, how awesome would it be to also bring back that huge painting of Queen Elizabeth that used to hang at the Winnipeg Arena?
Apparently the painting has been in a storage facility in Whitby, Ontario since 2000 and is currently for sale. So I was thinking that we could start a Facebook campaign to lobby to bring the painting back to Winnipeg and hopefully hang it somewhere in the MTS Centre or Iceplex.
Here are some quotes about the painting:
The Camp X Historical Society has approached the Hockey Hall of Fame, Queen's Park, and a list of others, but no one wants it.
"It's all about the size, and the fact that the artist is little-known and his work doesn't trade," said art expert Stephen Ranger with Ritchie's Auction House.
So, undignified as it may be, the Queen waits for an appropriate suitor. Camp X's Anya Wilson is hopeful a new home will eventually be found.
"I think we'll know when they approach who's going to treat her the best," she said.

Here's another quote by Ace Burpee:
It’d be nice to see the ‘ole girl again. She’s safe, which is great, but I think she’s got some life left in her. I’m going to try and bring her back home for a visit. I have no idea how to do this, no idea if it’s possible, nor if it is in fact a good idea. I’m at least going to try. I’d be a great homecoming.
I told someone my idea today to bring the portait back to Winnipeg for a visit. They asked "Why?". I said "Why not?". This conversation solved nothing, but I’m still into the idea. We could hang it at The WAG and get our picture taken next to it. Hang it at The Forks and do the same thing. I love that picture. It’d be nice to see it again. I’m on it, no matter if it’s a good or bad idea.

If a Facebook campaign can get Betty White to host SNL, then surely we can bring back the queen!
