According to Asper on Prime Time Sports tonight: The stadium will be built with 45,000 permanent seats. Seats will be covered off to make capacity 30,000 for CFL games. Full capaity would only be used for "major events" like the Grey Cup. You have to wonder if this might also include the Banjo Bowl??? That's really good news. I was kinda worried that they'd have to bring in extra temorary seating whenever they want to expand, like at Winnipg Stadium. With permanant seat that simply get covered, they could easily expand it for any game that calls for it, kinda like the Moose at the MTS Centre. Not only that, but 30,000 seats is perfect for the Bombers now, but it doesn't really leave any room for growth. I'll be interested to see how this affects the Bisons' popularity. I could see their attendance numbers blow up with a new building. They'll probably do a lot more cross-promotion between the Bisons and the Bombers. Some ticket packages, that sort of thing. Like Asper said today, it would be nice to see the UofM football program reach the same level as a Laval.

I think this will turn the Bisons into a powerhouse. They've had a strong program for a while, but this is a huge selling point in recruiting. State of the art stadium and training facility, plus CFL GMs and coaches in the same building?? BIG advantage for the Herd!! I think from a merchandise stand point as well, selling some Bisons gear at Bomber games will be a huge boost.
On a side note, soon I wont have to go to the Polo Park area for anything, and that will certainly be a happy day. The traffic around there is enough to make a person scream.
